Independent practice preview

This is a constructed rehearsal, not an official company answer or a prediction of what an interviewer will ask.

Start with a position

Give the interviewer your decision before the framework.

I would use an onboarding experiment with a pre-registered hypothesis, primary retained-task metric, guardrails, and segment analysis.

Preview the reasoning

Three moves to make the answer concrete.

01

Lead with the answer

  • State the decision and outcome before recounting chronology.
  • Make your personal ownership distinguishable from the team’s work.
02

Situation and stakes

  • Primary user: a new or expanding user who has not yet experienced repeatable value.
  • Core tension: novelty can create starts without producing a retained habit or meaningful outcome.
03

Decision and reasoning

  • Rejected: broad scope before the control and evaluation path was credible.
  • Protected: a complete end-to-end user outcome rather than a collection of partial features.

Measurement check

A metric is useful only when it changes the decision.

North star
7-day retained useful-task completionSeparates repeatable value from novelty.
Leading
Time to first successful outcomeMakes the activation bottleneck actionable.
Guardrail
Low-quality use · support burdenPrevents growth from importing hidden cost.

Interviewer pressure test

Do not stop when the first answer sounds polished.

  1. Why prioritize a new or expanding user who has not yet experienced repeatable value before an adjacent segment?
  2. What evidence would make you reject the thesis: “I would use an onboarding experiment with a pre-registered hypothesis, primary retained-task metric, guardrails, and segment analysis.”?
  3. How would you test “shorten time to the first successful real task, then reinforce a repeatable return path” with two weeks and a small team?
